The Equalizer 2, directed by Antoine Fuqua, is a film with no tension, no suspense, no moment that thrills the senses or engages the mind. It is a film that holds within it… nothing. As someone who doesn’t like deconstructing a film purely on negative points; someone who tries to find the good in films and celebrate a medium of art that I adore and obsess over, I am going to severely struggle with this review, as there is truly no positive point that I can find to talk about. Review – Battle of the Sexes

Battle of the Sexes, directed by Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton, is uplifting, full of heart, and will certainly gain a few well-earned laughs from you. The greatest achievement of this film is that it takes the time to really explore its varied characters, and because of that, it ended up feeling like a more complete experience. Coming from the perspective of the characters first and then letting the story build up around them, both benefited my connection to the people who mattered and led into me being invested in their story. And so, it’s thanks to patience and some noticeable attention to detail (of many elements) that the film has you feeling like a part of the journey, throughout. Independence Day: Resurgence, directed by Roland Emmerich, is a loud, silly, chaos filled film. But you know what? Despite all the problems (of which there are a few) I still came out of the film smiling and having had fun. Yes, the film is going to make your eyes roll (more than once) but if you have the lowered expectations that should come standard with a film like Independence Day… well then you’ll have just the right amount of enjoyment.
